YG’s “How To Rob A Rapper” Track Criticized Following PnB Rock’s Death

YG’s “How To Rob A Rapper” Track Criticized Following PnB Rock’s Death. “Catch a n*gga lackin’, he slackin’ on IG Live / He gon’ show his whereabouts on accident, he be high,” the West Coast rapper rhymes on his new album. This past weekend saw the release of YG’s I Got Issues album, which has received a lot of positive feedback from both fans and industry leaders like 50 Cent. However, one song in particular has brought the West Coast rapper a lot of criticism. In the aftermath of PnB Rock’s sad murder in Los Angeles last month, some have criticized the fifth title of the new project, “How to Rob a Rapper,” as being callous.

“Peep game, I’ma teach you how to rob a rapper / Catch a n*gga lackin’, he slackin’ on IG Live / He gon’ show his whereabouts on accident, he be high / He gon’ show the jewels he wearin’ and the car that he drive,” YG raps on the Mozzy and D3szn-assisted song. As noted by HipHopDX, a related music video was released on Monday (October 3), further highlighting the issue.

Some people who posted their opinions on Twitter felt that the release of the song came at an entirely unsuitable time given how close it was to PnB’s murder. One user remarked, “We live in an age where songs can be taken out of albums in real-time.

“Considering PnB Rock, YG’s ‘How to Rob A Rapper’ should have been taken off.” I don’t think YG is disparaging PnB Rock with his new song, but the timing is bad, said another.

While others have defended the 32-year-old, tweeting, “All this is proof that y’all never listened to YG,” others have defended the 32-year-old. Similar songs analyzing L.A. culture can be found on his earlier albums. He has been admonishing people for around ten years. That song/musical would still be released even if the PnB Rock incident never occurred.
