Hearts of Oak will soon announce Slavko Matic as the team’s new head coach, Happy Sports can confirm. In order to make his debut later today at the team’s training facility, Pobiman, Matich is now becoming acquainted with the playing roster.
The 46-year-old holds a UEFA Pro Licence and has a wealth of managerial experience in Europe, Africa, and Asia. He is now unattached following a difficult start to the 2022–23 campaign with the Bulgarian team Septemvri Sofia.
Matic has been the team’s leader for 29 games since taking over in January 2022, during which time Septemvri has a 12-12-3 record (with 7 draws and 10 losses). The former Serbian defender landed at Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Tuesday evening at 8:00.
He’ll join the rest of the Hearts team at their practice facilities on Wednesday so they can compete in a scrimmage against a lower-level team. Matic has prior experience working in Africa; for a brief period, he served as the head coach of the Egyptian team Al-Nojoom FC.
The former Spartak Moscow and CSKA Sofia star is likely to attend the Phobians’ match against AS Real de Bamako on Sunday at Accra Sports Stadium. Hearts are currently down 3-0 after the first leg of the second preliminary round was played on Saturday in Bamako, the capital of Mali.
The Serbian teams Napredak Krusevac, OFK Beograd, Novi Pavar, and FK Sloboda Uzice have all used Matic as a manager. He served as the coach for Al-Shamal SC and Al Ahli Doha in Qatar. He served as an assistant coach for Nantong Zhiyun FC and Henan Jianye while he was in China.
