Staff of Stanbic Bank Ghana as part of their employee community engagements, have constructed and handed over a fully equipped ultra-modern place of convenience to the Demonstration School for the Deaf at Mampong in the Eastern region.
The team also donated assorted items including detergents, soft drinks and foodstuff to support the day-to-day running of the school.
Margaret Obimpeh, Head, Affluent Clients, who commissioned the toilet facility and presented the items to the school on behalf of the bank said
“We are part of a bank that believes in driving national growth. In light of this we are always looking for ways to support communities across the country. When we came across the Demonstration School for the deaf, we knew we needed to help out. One of the major challenges we noticed was the lack of proper toilet facilities. We therefore adopted this project and worked from scratch to put up this building for them”.
“We are confident that with this donation will go a long way to help this students in proper hygiene practices and give them a better place of comfort. This is only the beginning; we will definitely return to do even more”, she added.
Head of Consumer High Net Worth, Ben Mensah commended the headteacher and staff of the school for the good work they’ve been doing for the children.
He said “it is no secret people with hearing impairment go through a lot of challenges. This school has provided a safe haven for these young children to learn and develop various skills to become productive members of the community. I want to commend the staff of this school for all the work you do for these wonderful children. Thank you for dedicating your lives to ensuring that these children will have a better chance at a good life”.
The Headmaster of the school, Setunte Ametewee received the items on behalf of the school and thanked the members of the Affluent team for the kind gesture.
“I am very grateful to the Affluent team from Stanbic for giving us a reason to smile today. Having a proper place of convenience has been one of our challenges as a school. We are very thankful that the Affluent team answered our call and put up this wonderful facility for us. This will go a long way to promote good hygiene amongst our students. We face a lot of challenges here and we are often neglected so we do not take it for granted that the Affluent team has given both their time and money to make our students’ life a little bit better. We are grateful and we look forward to your next visit”, he said.
The Demonstration School for the Deaf currently has 460 students studying programmes such as leather works, hairdressing, sewing and beads making at the vocational level.
To better cater for these students and take in new ones, the school has made numerous public appeals for improved facilities since 2020. Donation of items and construction of washroom facility for both male and female students by the Affluent Client Service department of Stanbic Bank was in response to these calls.
